150th Anniversary Release Features Stunning Artistry

The obverse on Royal Mint proof is a floral pattern that includes a rose, daffodil, thistle, and shamrock, representing each of the four states in the United Kingdom plus a chrysanthemum (the national flower of Japan) along with the same bead pattern, a tied ribbon design, found on an 1871 Japanese Sen coin from the period. The reverse shows a depiction of The Royal Mint’s facility at Tower Hill in1871 — the same year the Osaka Mint was opened in Japan.
